“I was having a small BBQ at my parents house for the 4th of July, 2011. One of my friends asked me if she could invite her fiancé over after he was done golfing. Her fiancé showed up with his friend Jay. When I went to open the door for them, our eyes locked through the glass door. There was an immediate connection and we spent the rest of the afternoon talking and flirting. After dinner we were all playing Apples to Apples and Jay leaned over and whispered ‘I hope you know we are going to dinner this week’. We ended up hanging out almost every night that week! After about 4 weeks of dating, I knew this was the man for me. We attended a friends wedding in Vermont together and Jay leaned in while we were watching the fireworks and told me that he had fallen for me.”

I often recommend the couple to have a “first viewing” – seeing each other all dressed up for the first time – before the ceremony. We then do all the formal portraits with family members as well as bridal party. Having all these shots done beforehand, allows the couple and family the time to enjoy the cocktail hour with their guests.
It’s important to allow enough time to photograph the couple – I typically count 1 hour. These are the photos that you will be looking at with your children and grandchildren a long time from your wedding day – it’s important to make time for them.
